Emily Brown – What is participatory art? Who does it? And why? My placement at Furtherfield (a digital arts company) is an opportunity to experience and study local people creating and interacting with art. I’ll be spending 4 weeks in Finsbury Park, London, at the Furtherfield gallery working on lots of exciting new projects, top secret as of yet, but check back soon!
Emma Lewins – ‘The business of business should not just be about money, it should be about responsibility. It should be about public good, not private greed.’ – Anita Roddick, Founder of The Body Shop. What makes a successful ethical brand? And how do they influence young people’s decisions to buy them? I’ll be discovering this during my placement at The Body Shop.
Kathryn Hampshire – Playing in mud, making friends with wild boar…all in a day’s work during my placement. I am investigating the effects of wild boar behaviour on soil and vegetation. My study will look at soil properties and the types of plants across various enclosures at the Wildwood Trust. This will hopefully reveal the dramatic impacts of wild boar behaviour.
Kathleen Smith – UNICEF states there are millions of children living on streets around the world. Why are the numbers so high and why are we struggling to help these children? During my placement I will collaborate with StreetInvest a UK NGO training street workers in developing countries to explore ideas of what defines a ‘street child’ and what policy challenges are faced.
